An event of interest, organised by the Administration of the State Cultural Reserve of Kernavė. It is not a Participio event; we share it because it matters for participatory work.

On 8-9 October 2026 the Archaeological Site Museum of Kernavė hosts the international conference "Heritage Management: Between Threats and Opportunities". The Participio team will attend.

What it covers. The conference looks at the challenges and opportunities of managing cultural heritage today: legal frameworks, the management of UNESCO World Heritage sites, community engagement, sustainable tourism, cultural landscapes, and new approaches to interpreting and presenting heritage.

Who speaks. The two-day programme has more than 20 presentations by cultural and natural heritage specialists from Lithuania, Germany, Italy, Poland and Latvia, with discussions and a chance to see the Kernavė Archaeological Site in more depth. It is aimed at heritage researchers and professionals, site managers, representatives of heritage communities and anyone interested in the topic.

Why it matters for participatory work. Community engagement sits on the programme next to law, tourism and site management, which is where it has to be argued for in practice.

Practical. Participation is free, with registration through the registration form. Simultaneous interpretation between Lithuanian and English is provided. The venue is the Archaeological Site Museum of Kernavė, Kerniaus g. 4a, Kernavė. The programme and the book of abstracts are linked from the organisers' announcement.

Who is behind it. The conference is announced by the Administration of the State Cultural Reserve of Kernavė, and the event is co-hosted online with the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania (Valdovų rūmai).
